Can't believe there was never a season 2 and beyond as it's really a showcase for dive travel. Sure they do things you should not do but it looks to be with the best of intentions. Wish someone would make something similar if Scott, Andre and Ellis don't.
Don't get me wrong, i knew from the start that this series will be about diving not traveling as Departures was. The amazing visuals captured and created by the highly talented cameraman Andre Dupuis, the usual excellent narration by Scott Wilson were all there with the same quality as in Departures, but right from the start there was something wrong laying around, OK, Justin was not on this new series, i could accept that, but he was replaced by some bragging guy that i never liked from the New Zealand Departures episode, he can be a very skilled and experienced diver but for a travel companion for Scott, it simply didn't worked and the series just turned into a banal documentary about diving saved only by some good parts here and there when they were not actually diving at all, when Scott was showing us something about the place.
I watched and re-watched Departures, each episode was a true gem, with Descending it was painful sometimes, i even skipped one or two episodes, many parts were just boring A bad option which i hopefully they correct soon, i heard something about departures season 4, so big fans of Departures as me, may get a good surprise soon :.

Sherry Gladman. My own travels are off the beaten track. Most recently I went to Honduras. With a little care we found it safe, incredibly friendly and gloriously unspoiled. On one day we asked a local fisherman if he would take us out on his boat or maybe show us a hike through the jungle. He did both. We checked out an island bird sanctuary before hiking an ancient access road to a lighthouse. We came across wild horses and practiced our horse whispering while our hosts who speak no English cut some fresh coconuts for the water.
You guys are the best. I have always pushed myself to experience new things but I might push a little further. I have always wanted to learn to fly and now I need a Zorb. Thank you. I have watched Departures many times over and over. A truly wonderful travel show. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many of these areas and I feel that this show gives viewers a glimpse into what travel over a lengthy period of time is like. My wife and I backpack independent travel in which we may have a room booked for our first night on arrival in a foreign country but after that we just go where the wind takes us.
We are not Justin and Scotts age. I am 62 and my wife is Would I travel differently such as a Cruise line or on a scheduled touring. Likely not. We like the spontaneous adventure that this show depicts. It is also our way of experiencing destinations. The title of the show is one of the things I like about independent traveling… Departures. The unknown adventure ahead when you are at the Departure Gate.!!
The feeling of excitement of what lies ahead. Having been to about 25 countries on ocean cruises, a Nile River cruise and a bus tour across Western Europe while on summer break from college, I increasingly found myself chafing at the restrictions on where, how and when I could explore.
The one side trip which stood out was when I hitchhiked alone across Ireland when I was I want to know what daily life is like in these places: what do people do for work, where do they live, what do they eat, what are their plans for the future?
I also hope to meet travelers not tourists from other countries who also ditched the traditional paths in their own countries to explore the world. I recently read about one expat from the U. I love this travel show because like an idiot abroad, they make everything authentic with culture of the people around the world. Kudos to Lisa for the great interview. I stumbled upon the show and was hooked! I have traveled on my own to Japan, Greece and Italy so far — returned to Japan times and times to Italy because I feel in love with those places.
My trusty phrase book was put to good use and was able to communicate with people despite language barriers. I also wondered off the beaten path and meant some wonderful people in doing so. Awesome series and would like to see more from a very talented guy! I have watched all episodes of Departures and I can still remember every bits of it. It is such an inspirational series on life and travel. I appreciate the fact that Departures were never tainted by commercial interests like all other mainstream travel documentaries.
They invite us to have a sneak peak into their nomadic lifestyle and the producer had been very careful to show it that way.
